We restored a 1965 Mk II and showed it in 1997 in then class 16. Drove to St Louis, Louisville and Baton Rouge and the combined score was 3rd nation wide in JCNA. We have sold the car to a good home. It was all a wonderful interlude in our lives. A few pictures below:
Can see AC outlets, Radio, and heater on left, AC temp control on right. Switch under dash converts two-speed panel switch to three-speed blower motor. 15″ metal spoked steering wheel. Burl and ivory knob.
Car has manual chokes using parts from Austin Healy carb set. Control from XK-E with 2nd light for “choke on”. Turn signal switch cancels by itself – most don’t anymore. Can see other AC/heat outlet.
BAS interior is worth every penny. Correct thresholds
Wood is older burl look. Period Britax shoulder harness
Reclining front seats
Manual in proper plastic pouch in door pocket
It’s no wonder the chrome bill was nearly $5000
New rad plus aux rad solves cooling issue. Can see AC on car right, battery on car left. Can’t see spin-on oil filter
Buffed the aluminum more than once, then used Eastwood clear and has lasted years. Can see fuses, steering pump and res, AC dryer and left side heat shield. Can’t see alternator.
Hood hinges are installed in original holes but greatly improve access. Copied geometry of Volvo trunk hinge.
Extra linkage is choke. Pancake filters make room for AC housing
This is not correct color. 80’s Pontiac
Tinted glass all round
185 tires on 5″ NEW wheels. Careful setup of 5-link suspension clears spat.
Can’t see, but we put a piece on the bulkhead to help with noise. All polyurethane suspension and steering bushings fantastically improve handling but make for more body rumble. Even motor mounts and sway bar are poly.
You don’t have a 99.something average score without a good toolkit.
Doesn’t everyone have one of these? And yes, we still are proud of our “blue car”. The right lights and Lucas mirrors.
There’s more, but the small
round upper right in 3rd national in class.
Most of the features are mentioned in captions. Should point out that the transmission is a series 1 XJ-6 that I imported and had Quantum Mechanics overhaul – OD clutches and all (pressure regulated for positive shifts – no “sliding in”). The original Moss goes with the sale. Same with the air cleaner and transition, rear springs, old radio and front steering.
